The trench is, without a doubt, a trusted classic. Often though, dependable clothing items, like a practical mac, are overlooked, not seen as sexy, and more of a season-less investment that should be classed as a staple piece in your wardrobe. You buy a trench, and even though it's good to you, sometimes we forget to be good to them. We take it for granted and only pull it out when it starts to shower.
But. How about considering the trench as your very own 007 moment. The trench oozes power, compliments all figures when styled in a way that suits your own body shape and can really be a simmering addition to an outfit when paired with a thigh tracing secondhand slip/ skirt or dress.

Everything about this shot spoke "luxe, glamour and class" There was something about the cinched waist, bare leg, and cut of the trench that made the overall outfit seem to be sexy, alluring and mysterious. As well as expensive.
How is one supposed to recreate the look on a secondhand budget? Here's how I did it.
First off, let's talk about the trench. If you are in the market for a secondhand trench, really be on the lookout for quality. You can tell when it's poorly designed, the stitching is naff, buttons are plastic and the belt gives so much away. If it's made on the high street- it's probably not made to last, and definitely not waterproof. So invest in quality. I sourced my Madeleine look from @cr_uk and absolutely loved the sheer finish to the material. Trench coat with collars, lapels, breast pockets, buttoned welt pockets, shoulder tabs, tie belt, and buttons in horned look—all for just £15.
Now how do you style it?
Of course, you can pair it casually with jeans, slacks, even cropped pants. However, I wanted to use my trench for a weekend date with the man. And let me tell you, I felt very 007 with him by my side in his own Hugo Boss trench and then my secondhand styling mac. I chose a very short, suit-inspired dress, and kept the legs bare with Italian mules. Black and tan don't always go, but the gold detailing on my shoes and bags helped to give it that luxe finish.

Femme Fatal Finish
Even though this is a practical look, you can take it up a notch by accessorising, and mastering the "power" finish with rolled-up sleeves, popped collars and additional scarves.
Of course, there are multiple shades, lengths and cuts that arise from the traditional trench, so keep your eyes open for one that works for your shape, personal style, and more importantly a design that makes you feel just as good as it makes you look.
