If you’d told me five years ago that I’d be selling pre-loved clothes live from my living room without a studio, camera crew, or an earpiece feeding me stats, I’d have raised a very well-groomed eyebrow.
But here we are.
What began as a side project during lockdown, a little experiment in decluttering and connecting has grown into a full-blown resale revolution. And if you’re reading this, chances are you’re curious about stepping into that world, too.

Yes! Before founding Secondhand Styling UK, I spent years working in live TV, hosting for major networks including QVC and HSN in the U.S. I sold everything from jewellery to tech, speaking to thousands of viewers per minute with strict time slots, fast facts, and lots of pressure.
Live selling is performance, but it's also connection. That’s the thread that stuck with me.
So when I started going live to sell my own pre-loved wardrobe during lockdown, it felt like home, even if the backdrop had changed from studio lights to ring lights.
The difference? No scripts. No crew. No call sheets. Just me, my clothes, and an audience willing to tune in, sometimes one person at a time.
That’s when I realised:

Anyone with a phone can do it.

What I Learned Going From Studio to Self-Starter

But here’s what no one tells you when you start:

And it’s about building an experience — not just a transaction.
So here’s what I’ve learned along the way.
Tip 1: The Story Sells the Style
Every piece of clothing has a backstory, even if it's just where you wore it or why you loved it. When you share that live, it connects. People buy pieces that already feel personal.
Tip 2: Preparation Beats Perfection
You don’t need to be polished, but you do need to be prepped. Know your items. Have your prices ready. Line up your order. It’s the difference between a confusing jumble and a confident show.
Tip 3: Make Viewers Part of the Show
Talk to your audience. Ask for opinions. Style pieces live based on their suggestions. You’re not broadcasting at them — you’re inviting them in.
Tip 4: Think Show, Not Sale
Plan segments. Build suspense. Use time cues. Have a “star of the show” moment. Your live should feel like a mini event — something they want to stick around for.
Tip 5: Don’t Worry About Small Numbers
Everyone starts with an audience of one. And that one person might become your best customer. Plus, replays do just as much heavy lifting as the live itself.
