How To Wear The Corset Trend This Season

I was about 17 when I last rocked the corset trend. But they do say, what goes around, comes around, even in the case of corsets. I can't help thinking it might have something to do with all of the period dramas, topped with the arrival of structured boning styled on the set of House Of Dragons. Whatever is the cause, corsets are back with a vengeance, and what a perfect time of year to start sourcing a secondhand one for the upcoming festivities. But let's take a deep, long pause before we begin to lace up our tops and consider the different ways in which you can make the most out of the corset sensation.

Corset Dresses

Whether you're busty like me or have a smaller chest, corset dresses generally will sit nicely, cinching and drawing attention to your waist, while the mini skirt adds drama and extra shape. You can generally find a fair few in charity shops as there was a surge in them from brands in the early 2000s, so get ready to start sourcing. Sometimes this look can feel a little "young" for someone my age, but I like to give it a more mature and polished look by adding an oversized blazer and sophisticated court shoes, statement bangles and rings, and premium-looking, no-nonsense clutch or tote.

One of my top tips is that strapless corset dresses always seem harder to wear as a busty girl, and unless the fabric and design is top quality, I would steer away from them and always opt for something with straps. But when you find the right one, be prepared to turn heads.

Corset Co-ord

Nothing brings me joy like a monochrome outfit; it's a fail-safe way of dressing. A black top will never look bad with a black pair of trousers, which is exactly the same for this corset paired with (almost) matching trousers. So, why not give this a go?

Corset & Jeans Combo

This partnership is that unlikely match that just looks effortlessly cool. Especially with high-waisted, straight-legged jeans and a vintage belt. Pure class. This is an excellent look whereby you have freedom with the type of corset you want to style. There is room for adventure and fun.

Whatever corset style you choose, always try your secondhand corsets before you buy. This is one item of clothing that needs to fit your body type in a way that makes you feel comfortable and confident. If you are worried about it falling down or about to spill out, it may not be the right corset for you. But be patient, I promise there is a pre-loved one just waiting to be found by you.
