How I blagged my way through life shopping secondhand

I've spent the last 15 years working in entertainment, and like it or not, the industry is a visual beast that takes no prisoners. It either loves your look, appreciates your style or moves on to the next personality. So you have to be able to curate, experiment and highlight your best features at any given moment, and like most professionals in the world of entertainment you are living pay check to pay check. Which. causes havoc when it comes to looking good and staying on trend. Meaning my sense of self-styling falls into one category: secondhand.

Let me introduce myself. My name is Lucy Norris; Content Creator, On Camera personality, Fashion Enthusiast and Secondhand Style Dealer. I believe that you don't need a million to look like a million. I am living proof after spending my whole life winging my way through the world of Fashion on a budget. Let's not get it twisted- it takes time, an eye for detail and a whole lot of enthusiasm for what I like to call- treasure hunting. But I was taught by the best- a single mom who knew how to tell stories through luxe looks, purchased on a budget. And now I want to share my lifelong secrets of turning pre-loved pieces into premium looks for less with you all.

As a child, I grew up in secondhand gear. My adult life has since gone on to center around the world of thrifting. I can't explain the thrill I get when I discover one of a kind pieces. A buzz that has been with me all of my life.

At 20, I moved to NYC to pursue my dreams of TV presenting with nothing more than a suitcase of secondhand clothes. I returned 12 years later with a book full of memories and experiences, but credit card debt up to my eyeballs; never once did I splurge on clothes; instead, it's just the cost of living in the US... dreams are built on credit!

After a downward spiral of battling with anxiety and no longer feeling happy, I decided to move back to the UK.

I returned with nothing more than the suitcase I left with.

Not only did I need to rebuild my life, but I also had to rebuild my closet fast but as always, on a budget.

For years, I have served as a useful source to those seeking inspiration, help, or advice regarding Fashion. I've worked as a Journalist, TV Presenter, Fashion Analyst, and Content Creator. I finally decided to own that role and be intentional about it. I started writing about my passions, my thoughts, and curious wonderings about the secondhand world of Fashion and how it can benefit so many different types of people.

I founded Secondhandstyling.co.uk to prove how fashion and style should be accessible to all, no matter the cost. In the next few weeks you will read stories, discover tips, curate your own secondhand styling take on fashion and be part of a long lasting trend that is great for the planet, brilliant for people and overall a better way to shop and consume as a society.
