The best way to describe the Parisian style is effortless comfort. But despite the name, Parisian women seem to put an extreme amount of effort into their style. The garish colours that seem to spill from the seams of Americanised French fashion are nowhere to be found on true French women, who seem to prioritise simple elegance. If you want to look like you don’t care – you have to make an effort to accomplish that.
Simple Jeans
When cold weather hits Paris, it hits hard. The rain is nothing new to Parisians, and jeans are a staple as old as time. The simple straight-leg classic jean is a trend that will last a long time, and the dark washes don’t seem to be going anywhere either. The classic look of dark blue jeans and a nice top is a staple of Paris and seems like it always will be.
This classy look styles great with small heels or a boot underneath, giving you height and lengthening the leg. Another great addition would be a sleek blazer or jacket. Try to keep the colours muted and classy to compliment the overall look.
Sleek Silhouettes
This Autumn/Winter Paris Fashion Week brings us many exciting things to talk about; it also gives us a hint of the upcoming trends in Paris. This includes the sleek silhouettes we saw all over the runway. This ranges from slinky skirts to the straight-leg trousers. The classic silhouettes have been dusted off and given a new paint job, as they look better than ever. The 90’s influence creates a level of sophistication and comfort from the vintage styles. This look will look amazing for autumn and can be styled really well with a variety of bags, belts, and boots. Pull out the 90’s memorabilia from the back of the wardrobe if you want the Parisian Girl look.
Long Coats
If you are anything like us here at Secondhand Styling, you love a long coat. The sleek, classy silhouette and aura of a long coat adds a level of sophistication to any outfit. In Paris, these are coming in all colours and patterns. We suggest a long black, good quality wool coat which is warm and looks amazing. This will go with every outfit and keep you warm at the same time. Long coats look best with heeled boots or a long skirt; these lengthen the silhouette of the body and have the added benefit of making you feel like a busy businesswoman out of a rom-com (which is always a bonus in our books).
Metallic Accents
Metallics have been in for the past couple of years, and they are showing no sign of leaving anytime soon. However, with everything, Parisian women can’t do anything unless it's classy. This includes the metallic trend. Whether it is a beautiful pair of statement earrings, a layered sequin top, or a sparkly skirt paired with a casual t-shirt. The Parisians have beaten the rest of us at the game of seamlessly combining this trend within their fashion while still keeping within the realm of a sophisticated, muted palette.
Perfect Pumps
The perfect pumps the one thing a woman can look for her entire life and never find. Once again, the Parisian style has beaten us to the trend. The early 2010s-inspired schoolgirl pumps are back in with a twist. Whether you prefer a small heel or something a bit taller, a mary-jane style, or something with fewer straps, there is something for you within this trend. The idea is to get the perfect pair of pumps, styling it with the most casual outfit, making everything you wear into a perfectly manicured “I didn't try too hard aesthetic.” Try a comfortable block heel, and whatever style you prefer, as long as they are not astronomically high, you have the look. Style this with jeans, a skirt, and non-structured trousers, and you’ve got the look. Our favourite is a pair of classic straight-leg blue jeans, a white well-fitting T-shirt and a red pair of heels or heeled mary-janes.
Blue Hues
Once again, the Paris Fashion Week runway pulls us in as blue hues cover the catwalk. Blue seems to be becoming more and more popular this year, and we predict that it will be the main colour of next year's styles; it’s already covering the catwalk for this year. These blues range from a more sophisticated and muted navy blue to a more stand-out royal blue. This range adds depth to the colour as a trend, which Parisians are beginning to use to their own benefit. From royal blue nails and accents in outfits to a more universal use of the more muted tones of navy, blue is everywhere. We suggest investing in knitted navy or jewellery that touches on the royal blue aesthetic if you wish to take part in this trend.
