This September has seen four incredible cities renowned for their fashion take the stage once more. New York, London, Milan, and Paris have all been buzzing with fashion aficionados. In order to create calm in the chaos, we have decided to share with you our favourite picks from this Spring/Summer Season. We will look at each city at a time and let you know trends we love and can’t wait to see on the street; we will also give some tips and tricks on how to style your own pieces to fit the aesthetics of the runway.

New York

There were some really incredible ideas coming out of New York Fashion Week this month in preparation for the next season. Not only does a lot of the trend predictions build off of thing we have seen this year, but they also bring fresh new life into things, letting us see them from a new perspective.

The Dropped Waist trend has been building over the past three years and doesn’t show any sign of stopping, so if you feel confident in low-raised jeans, this is your chance to shine. Christian Siriano and Rachel Comey have been breathing new life into this trend by adding it to out-of-the-box outfits such as ball gowns and sleek dresses. To recreate this look, take a long shirt with lots of detail and a matching skirt to wear underneath, pair with heels for a beautiful low-waisted look.

We are also loving these new summery shades of yellow that swept the runway. Prabal Gurung, Helmut Lang, and Coach all featured this look on their runways, and we love it. These sunny shades are perfect for the spring/summer season. But the fresh looks that have been designed with these colours are the best part. From sheers to mock-neck dresses, they really have found a cut and style to work for everyone in this colour.

Following on from sheers, anything sheer and lace also seems to have taken over the runway once again. Sheer is a trend that just won’t quit. Brands such as Christian Siriano and Coach have really perfected this and swapped out the basic mesh and simple open knits of the past couple of years for more detailed patterns and intricate lace. This means that we all need to hang on to our lace skirts as they don’t seem to be going anywhere.

Next up in our list of favorites are the Rosette-inspired pieces that have taken the world by storm everywhere this year and that doesn’t seem to show any signs of stopping, thanks to Fashion Week. Rosette-inspired dresses swept the runways of many brands, including Sixdo, Flying Solo, and Paloma Spain. In order to emulate this on a street style level, we need to be looking for dresses that have applique and help that aspect shine through with the help of statement earrings and simple heels.

Finally, plunge necklines are also on their way into our wardrobes, thanks to brands such as Bevza, Dennis Basso, and Falguni Shane Peacock. The nearing belly-button look took over the runway in New York, and we can’t get enough of the effortless sexiness of the silhouette. Try styling this for a night out or an event with heels and statement earrings. Try to avoid necklaces in order to allow the neckline of the dress to do all the talking.

London

London was filled with a multitude of amazing and innovative designs this season, and we cannot wait to see how this transfers over into street fashion. The designs this year are truly innovative and incredibly creative.

For example, JW Anderson’s clay clothes collection really shows how much of a creative genius he really is. His innovative and out-of-the-box designs will never not amaze us. This clay collection really pushes the idea of structure within street fashion. In spring-summer next year, we might be looking at structured and well-formed pieces throughout our wardrobes. Keep an eye out for structured pieces in your wardrobe to incorporate ready for 2024.

Once again, yellow was seen all over the runway (be ready for next year, yellow!). In London, it was kept more encapsulated in neutrals, evening out the brightness of New York with the sleek aesthetic of London. These looks used yellow within patterns to combine the freshness of the shades with the sleek cuts of the pieces. Brands such as Tove, Molly Goddard, and (our personal favorite) Roksanda all gave master classes in taking this trend and making it their own.

We are also loving the florals that can be seen all over the runway. Florals are a staple that seems to never go out of fashion, and we love it that way. Brands such as Huishan Zhang, Erdem, and Simone Rocha all prove how, even in masculine styling, the feminine influence of floral can help juxtapose this and create lasting, classic pieces.

Milan

Milan Fashion Week took the world by storm this year. With new innovative ways to look at colour and shape. These pieces are things we cannot wait to see on the high street and to incorporate the styles of into our own outfits.

The Fendi show

The Fendi runway proved that adding lots of colour to styles can still be classy and make you look absolutely incredible. Their use of brown mixed with matching colours, especially in the classy muted tones, really pulls together outfits that scream confidence. You can do this at home with your own clothes by adding colourful belts or scarves to a simple brown dress.

The use of mesh within the Deisel collection is truly innovative and a new and fresh take on the typical sheer styles. We all love the sheer designs, but they don't show any sign of going away soon therefore, brands creating something new from this trend are amazing to see. Not only this, but the designs also look incredible. You can emulate this look using sheer clothes you already own and sheer scarves.

Max Mara is keeping up the double denim look ready for another year. These structured looks really set up a summery, fresh aesthetic. These pieces were designed around the idea of a summer garden and outfits to wear there. This collection does this perfectly; you can definitely picture this whole collection within a summer garden. We can’t wait to see this trend during the spring and summer of 2024.

Ferragamo dominated the runway during fashion week with dark chocolate and forest green leather. The long-lined coats and structured blazers created professional but jaw-dropping looks that blew everyone away. The shapes created really show how structured and tailored styles are coming into fashion from next year.

Paris

Paris once again dominated Fashion Month with colour and texture. The whole of Paris was alight with the buzz of excitement this September, this led to some incredible street styles from the public and attendees alike.

However, the looks that truly blew us away start with Alexander McQueen. The structured, sleek cuts of the collection screams class and elegance. This was Sarah Burton’s (Designer for Alexander McQueen) final show, definitely a perfect last hurrah. This collection was designed around the ideas of ‘female anatomy, Queen Elizabeth I, the blood red rose, and Magdalena Abakanowicz, a transgressive and powerfully creative artist who refused ever to compromise her vision.’ This created a collection of dark and metallic structured dresses with pops of blood red, which perfectly encapsulates female rage.

Loewe created their whole collection around the ‘fashion of the silhouette,’ which led to incredible strangely structured pieces. These shapes and silhouettes subvert expectations and make shocking pieces that stand out from the crowd while looking incredible. The way they have played with perspective and proportions is something we can see being very popular next year. We suggest creating this with layering and using different-sized pieces.

Layering was also very popular this year, as seen in both Louis Vuitton and Christopher Esber’s shows. By using multiple skirts and accessories, Louis Vuitton was able to create fresh new styles. These pieces play with proportions and add new perspectives to the collection. Christopher Esber’s layering used tight strips of material for one piece, creating interesting textures and shapes within the dress. They also create fresh new styles by matching tight pieces that are tailored perfectly with different types of material, such as sheer or textured.
