There is nothing better than jetting off somewhere hot and glorious during the dark and dreary months in the winter. You can't help but gloat a little when you have to let people know you won't be able to attend this year's Christmas party because you will be soaking up the sunshine instead. But no doubt, there will be a few occasions whereby the voice in your head reminds you to watch your pennies when curating your holiday closet. You saved and splurged on the getaway, which may not leave you much room to spend on your looks.
This is when the ability to source secondhand helps to set you apart from other fashionistas because you can still look amazing and feel incredible at a fraction of the cost when styling secondhand.
We all know that trying to buy new summer clothes during the winter is a challenge. So save yourself the headache with our simple tips:
Reimagine what you already own
Your perfect sunset outfit could be closer than you think. Before you start shopping for more new-to-you pre-loved, why not revisit your own wardrobe. Have a rummage and see what you can reinvent, whether pairing it with a new skirt or top, or accessorising in a brand new way that makes it feel fresher than it is. Also, look at Pinterest and see if you can style your current items in brand-new ways with a little trend inspo from the platform's feed. Always my go-to resource!
Online Is Your Best Friend
Sourcing your summer finds in the winter at charity shops may be harder than you think, as generally, the teams are displaying items they think are appropriate to the season. So I suggest spending a little more time online to curate your holiday wardrobe. You will be able to find some incredible bargains as this is the season whereby people have done a wardrobe clear-out to make room for their Winter essentials and now looking to make some money from the pre-love summer pieces.
Be Intentional
When we are often sourcing clothes for special occasions or specific destinations, we focus on discovering certain trend-orientated pieces that will only be suitable for that one getaway or event. By shopping and sourcing with intention, we can make sure that we choose pieces that will last beyond our holiday wardrobe. Consider patterns/ colours and fabrics that you can layer throughout all seasons and timeless designs that will last beyond this year's trends.
And, of course, have fun with your Winter Sun wardrobe. When I travel, I often use the getaway to experiment with my style and try out different types of looks. Let this time be an opportunity to rediscover new ways of dressing that you can bring back to your Winter wardrobe when you return.
