Making pre-loved look more expensive is our mission here at Secondhand Styling. This is why we believe you don't have to spend a lot of money on clothes to create an expensive-looking outfit, and you just have to know what makes pieces appear luxe. An endless budget gets you some pretty luxurious outfits, but so does having a few secondhand styling hacks up your sleeve.
Belt Everything
Belts are a great way to "complete" a look and create a polished finish to any outfit. Add a belt to your favourite trousers or jeans, or think a bit outside the box and cinch up a blazer or dress with a waist belt. Consider sourcing matching belts to pair with certain bags. A tan belt, bag and pair of kitten heels can suddenly "pull" any affordable outfit together and make it look very luxe. We wouldn't be surprised if people assumed you spent far more on your outfit than you really did.

Add a statement piece(s)
Surprisingly enough, the pieces that make your outfit look 'expensive" could be hiding in a basket at the check out at a charity shop. What are we talking about? Chunky jewellery. Embracing "maximalism" in jewelry is all about layering on accessories that are bold and playful. There are plenty of secondhand treasures ready to be sourced. Try to stick to the same metals, when layering and just style one chunky piece and diner, detailed pieces underneath.
Opt for monochrome
Want to look expensive instantly, try a monochrome look. It is one of the easiest ways of looking expensive without overthinking it, and this is because all you have to do is wear the same coloured outfits from top to bottom. Selecting a certain colour combination can instantly elevate an outfit. Discover another expensive colour pairing with our GUIDE here.

Choose Silk and satin fabrics
Typically silk is an expensive fabric, however, when purchasing it pre-loved you can be lucky enough to source some simple vintage tops/ trousers or skirts that when sold separately, could be deemed as "old fashioned" therefore are marked lower in price. Stay smart, and shop these pieces when you see them and then modernise with chunky knits, tailored blazers or leather goods. And don't forget to lengthen their life with our GUIDE for caring for silk.

Size it Up
Make cheap clothes look more expensive by choosing the next size up. We are all here to invest in quality and fabrics, but broaden your options by looking at larger sizes. Discovering one of your favourite colours in a trendy cut will look a lot more expensive if it's a size bigger than what you typically wear.
